CHALLENGE

Disability advocates, service providers, and government agencies have put out the call that PPE is needed for vulnerable communities. Inspired-Threads is answering this call by providing facemasks that are designed specifically for people with disabilities and those living in lower-income, urban settings.

Moving about in a COVID-19 world requires a facemask. It also requires new levels of education, discipline, and commitment to care for ourselves and others. For people with disabilities, though, finding a facemask that fits well, knowing how to wear and care for it, and being able to tolerate it are all significant barriers to using a face-covering for
protection.

Data shows that COVID-19 has taken a tragic and disproportionate toll on vulnerable and underserved populations. People with
intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) are among those
most compromised and at the highest risk for poor outcomes.

Further compromising the outcomes for people with I/DD are complex physical, cognitive, sensory, and social challenges that lessen their ability to achieve effective compliance with basic

COVID-19 precautions, including hygiene, social distancing, and wearing masks.
